Estate Planning December 11, 2025
How Much Should an Attorney Charge for an Estate Plan? It Depends.
The right fee depends on the plan you actually need. A meaningful estate-planning conversation starts with your goals, family structure, and asset mix.
Clients often want a simple price for a will, powers of attorney, and medical directives. The honest answer is that the scope depends on what the family is trying to accomplish.
A straightforward plan for one household may be insufficient for another family with blended relationships, vulnerable beneficiaries, tax concerns, or probate-avoidance goals. Customization is not a luxury in this kind of work; it is the work.
The better question is whether the plan fits the legal and practical realities of the client’s situation. Durable planning usually costs less than fixing a weak structure later.
